Rasa cinta tanah air ini pada diri saya mungkin bisa dijadikan gambaran sebagai salah satu keberhasilan pendidikan di negeri saya utk mendoktrin generasi mudanya agar memiliki jiwa nasionalisme yang kuat. it’s a good thing tho’!

Namun perasaan sedih sekali-dua kali dan berulang kali terasa saat punya kesempatan berkunjung ke negara tetangga atau negara eropa dan melihat betapa jauh tertinggalnya negara kita..

Lucunya adalah ketika generasi muda percaya bahwa negeri kita mampu untuk maju dengan segala SDA/SDM yang ada, namun sampai sekarang terlihat para pemimpin negeri terkesan enggan melakukannya, dengan segala alasan Hukum, UU, Ancaman Kerahasiaan Negara/Stabilitas Nasional, Para pemimpin terkesan takut akan majunya inovasi-inovasi yang dilakukan oleh rakyat. HUKUM (yang jujur saya sendiri takut dan parno untuk berdekatan dengan Hukum di negara ini) menjadi alat yang paling powerful bagi para elit diatas untuk mengamankan posisinya dengan tidak mempunyai rasa malu mempermainkan Hukum didepan mata publik! *silakan pelajari kasus-kasus besar tiada akhir seperti CenturyGate, Mafia Pajak/Hukum Gayus Tambunan, Anthasari Azhar, Kriminalisasi KPK (Bibit-Chandra), Sisminbakum Yusril Ihza Mahendra VS UnValid Jaksa Agung, Susno Duadji, dan masih banyak lagi yang jikalau salah-satunya saja coba ditelusuri maka sangat mudah bagi kita melihat ketidak-adilan hukum di negeri kita tercinta.

Tidak habis pikir ketika para pemimpin tidak malu utk melakukan pembodohan publik, yang pada nyatanya sekarang publik sudah jauh lebih pintar dengan segala media informasi yang ada.

Dengan beralasan “Cinta Tanah Air” pemimpin berlagak ingin mengamankan negara ini dari kekuatan Asing, Padahal intinya hanya minta Uang lebih saja (semoga saya salah!)

Pajak Bea Masuk yang tinggi untuk Film asing dapat diputar di Bioskop terdengar sangat amat absurd, ketika suatu karya seni yang hanya dapat dinikmati Un-Tangible harus dikenai biaya bea masuk seperti membeli barang asing yang Tangible (seakan film tersebut bisa kita bawa pulang kerumah, kita lihat setiap saat, dan menjadi milik kita), Absurd bukan? IYA dan mereka tidak malu untuk menerapkan hukum / perundang-undangan yang absurd ini!. Hal lain adalah rentetan pergantian topik utama tuntutan pemerintah kepada RIM Blackberry yang berawal dari Filterisasi Kontent Porno -> Menuntut RIM untuk memuat PT di negara kita (yg nyatanya sudah dibuat oleh RIM) -> sampai akhirnya mendapatkan alasan yang paling make sense adalah “Pembuatan Server Lokal” untuk keamanan data.

Dua issue diatas adalah beberapa contoh yang menurut saya (semoga saya salah) itu semua Tidak lain hanya kedok yang digunakan bapak2 diatas sana untuk mendapatkan “jatah” lebih.

Dari mendalami tekhnologi informasi sebatas Internet rakyat dapat menjadi pintar tanpa harus bergantung pada bangku kurikulum sekolah dan media lokal. Dari film-film berkualitas tinggi dan berisi secara story dan cinematography rakyat pun mendapatkan banyak sekali ide-ide cemerlang untuk terus berinovasi. Namun mungkin kedua contoh diatas dapat menjadi ancaman bagi penguasa negeri ini untuk menahan rakyatnya agar tidak menjadi terlalu pintar, dan memaksa keduaanya “membayar lebih” untuk dapat digunakan di negeri ini tentunya dengan segala pengawasan yang ketat.

Pada akhirnya disaat rakyat negeri sudah bisa serentak berkomentar “Ada – Ada Saja Negara Ini” dengan segala keluhan yang beragam dan berbeda, mengapa pemimpin kami diatas terkesan santai2 saja, dan terus melakukan keputusan2 yang dapat dikategorikan keputusan absurd!

Revolusi itu katanya keras dan bringas, Bencana Alam menghancurkan satu generasi jg menyeramkan.

Pertanyaanya: Selain 2 cara diatas adakah cara lain Kawan?? atau kita lebih memilih menunggu sampe keajaiban itu datang dan mengubah segala sistem bobrok negara ini?

Padamu negeri saya berkeluh-kesah..

Tiada satupun yang bisa saya harapkan untuk mendengar keluh-kesah ini..

Sebesar itukah kesalahan negeri ini hingga kami suka merasa selalu dibodohi oleh pemimpin kami?

Apakah harus meniggalkan tanah air yang amat saya cintai?

Akankah roda kembali berputar dan kami kembali makmur dan sentosa?

Apakah harus dengan cara kekerasan,bencana, atau se-sederhana dgn kuasa mu’zizat Tuhan?

Padamu Negeri kami berjanji, berbakti, mengabdikan jiwa raga kami untukmu Negeri bukan untuk kepentingan kelompok-kelompok kami!!

So couple days ago I was having debate with my friend about a phrase “Less is More” what is all about? and the dangerous of using this term if we interpret wrongly..

Well here it goes what I can share of what I’ve been researched about a phrase “Less is More”
What is Less is More actualy? I’m sure we all are kind of familiar with this term, especially those who love to wear Giordano design t-shirt! well actually FYI Giordano is intently purposing their focused design to Less is More term (wiki, 2010).

So what is “Less is More” term actually?  “Less is More” first may refer to a phrase from the 1855 poem Andrea del Sarto (the faultless painter) by Robert Browning. Next the term “Less is More” we can refer to the phrase as adopted by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as a precept for minimalist design.

Now our discussion entered a term  of minimalist design as Architect Ludwig says. Minimalist design can be portrayed as a design that reduces and re-arranged some necessary elements to create the expression of “Simplicity” by enlisting all the components and elements to serve multiple functional purpose.

Designer Buckminster Fuller adopted the engineer’s goal of “Doing more with less”, but his concerns were oriented towards technology and engineering rather than aesthetics. A similar sentiment was industrial designer Dieter Rams‘ motto, “Less but better” adapted from van der Rohe. The structure uses relatively simple elegant designs; ornamentations are quality rather than quantity.

Okay now, let’s recall.. From “Less is More” we already hit other terms like “Minimalist Design” >  “Reduces some Necessary Element Design” > and “Create Multiple Functional Purpose by Element Design”.  As a conclusion by referring to my last discussion post about “Form Follow Action” we can enhance our understanding here to get it right of what is term “Less is More” all about.

As I conclude for this discussion the term “Less is More” can be described as a theory how we can think wise and smart to enlisting our element of design by focusing on its’ purpose to reduce some elements of design and make all the elements that placed in the design has a purpose or even has multiple purpose or function. and YES again a term “Form follow Function” in here is really related as our guidance to create a good design that minimalist yet not loosing its purpose or function!

Hello Guys..

Alrite straight to the point..  Surprisingly this morning I had two videos posted on my facebook wall concerning about how cruel having job in an advertising world, one comes from my friend Anjani:

And another more shocking but somehow people said the story tells the truth, comes from Daron who is already worki in this advertising industry:

However these video triggered me to post another video that I found before yet it might be useful to brighten up the view for us and those who still dreaming having a job in advertising world.

This is the video posted by  Leo Burnett. A big advertising agency that I believe you all in this industry knows this agency well. They clearly explain the changing era of world from time to time. First era once upon a time everything just focused on Product Feature. Then Later on we move to Branding era, where advertisers extremely create logos,  boost brand positioning, identify target audience, study/research consumer behaviors and any other branding things. But now Leo Burnett defines that we already move to another new era which they called it as “People Era“,  it’s the era where more focusing on people or human behavior  and create “human brand purpose“.  it’s a new phrase human brand purpose (Leo Burnett defines this phrase as a purpose that make a difference in people’s life).

A good example threw from them is Starbucks Coffee ->

• Human behavior is “people need daily mood booster everywhere they go!”
• while Human brand purpose is “Starbucks exists to provide the place to relax and feel like home everywhere in the world” (wait.. yes if you study about advertising you’ll find out that Human brand purpose is actually kind a similar as Positioning statement!)

But the different is the formula, in the new people era we must start from study the Human behavior then next we create Human brand purpose! That’s why Leo Burnett asked us to erase our old school formula which started from brand – positioning statement – target audience or consumer (it’s interesting for us who still study and applying this formula in university life, even this formula must be applied for my final year project.  ) however just remember if we want to break the rules we must know and understand the rules first.

Yet in this video Leo Burnett also states that in the people era, people don’t need ads but they need something more tangible which is acts! just like people could took part in designing a taylor made car of new fiat or feel the comfort home-mood of starbucks.

So let’s see the video:

New era – New challenging – another necessary needs to boost up our creative thinking eh?

Last week I was having discussion with a friend of mine about a term “Form follows Function” or “Function follows Form”. After done some research here’s what I got to elaborate more those two terms.

Based on Wiki Form follows Function can be defined as a principle associated with modern architecture and industrial design in the 20th century. The principle is that the shape of a building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose.

Alright to be honest, I am still blur of that definition, so let me break down that sentence:

What is Form?
Based on my research I got the idea that Form is about the overall look and aesthetic sense of what you get from one design. Form can easily understand by looking at the idea of designer choose the color, font, size, images, and any other element design. All graphic element design can be categorized as form.

What is Function?
Function is the purpose of the piece whether it is to sell, to inform or educate, to impress, or to entertain.or can easily understand Function is the objective or the goal of each product or design.

Form follows Function.
In a theory which has been applied since a long time ago, people will always follow the rule of “Form follows Function”. This theory can be described as an oldschool theory that considering a lot about Functionally above everything. They will think about Functionally over Usability, Ergonomics, and Aesthetics.

Then how about designer creative thinking way? It’s kind of ridiculous for designer to think less about the aesthetic. Let me give you an example, let’s say I am a web-designer, in order to create the design looks pretty , has a good mood or “cute look” of my website I choose TW Cent MT as my font type for that design, But the questions are: Is that font (TW Cent MT) a standard font?” In other words, does everyone have installed that font? Then I will come back and re-think about my design that has limitation when I want to sell or show it to public, and yes again I will repeat and saying loudly the rule of “Form follow Function”

So I conclude in order to be creative which think out of the box, we still have to think the limitation or the goal of what we produce. we can not just use our ego to create what we want without considering of our goal and our target audiences!!

There some important considerations of what we should think when we want to create something. Based on the article by Jacci Howard Bear from About.com, he listed down those considerations:

1. Who is the target audience and what are their expectations?
2. Is the design supposed to sell a tangible product or an idea?
3. Is it to develop goodwill, create branding, or public awareness about a company, an event, an issue?
4. What is the budget for this project? What quantity of this design is needed?
5. How will this project be distributed – by mail, door-to-door, in person, as part of a magazine, newsletter, newspaper, or book?
6. What action is the recipient likely to take with the piece – throw it away, stick on the wall, file for reference, pass it around, fax it around, put it on a shelf?
7. What elements are required by the client – specific colors, specific fonts, specific images?

After we understand all the considerations as our parameters and limitations, then we can use our creative way to design a product with concerning aesthetic simultaneously with function.

In your life, you’ll make note of a lot of people. Ones with whom you shared something special, ones who will always mean something. There’s the one you first kissed, the one you first loved, the one you lost your virginity to, the one you put on a pedestal, the one you’re with …and the one that got away.

Who is the one that got away?

I guess it’s that person with who everything was great, everything was perfect, but the timing was just wrong. There was no fault in the person, there was no flaw in the chemistry, but the cards just didn’t fall the right way, I suppose. I believe in the fact that ending up with someone, finding a long time partner that is, does not lie merely in the other person. I can actually argue that an equal part, or maybe even the greater part, has to do with the matter of timing.

It has to do with you being ready to settle down and commit to someone in a way that goes beyond the little niceties of giddy romance. How often have you gone through it without even realizing it? When you’re not ready to commit in that mature manner, it doesn’t matter who you’re with, it just doesn’t work. Small problems become big; inconsequential become deal breakers simply because you’re not ready and it shows. It’s not that you and the person you’re with are no good; it’s just that it’s not yet right, and little things become the flashpoint of that fact.

Then one day you’re ready. You really are. And when this happens you’ll be ready to settle down with someone. He or she may not be perfect, they might not be the brightest star of romance to ever have burned in your life, but it’ll work because you’re ready. It’ll work because it’s the right time and you’ll make it work. And it’ll make sense, it really will. The day comes when you’re finally making sense of things, and you find yourself to be a different person. Things are different, your approach is different, you finally understand who you are and what you want and you’ve become ready because the time has truly arrived. And mind you, there’s no telling when this day will come.

Hopefully you’re single… but you could be in a long-term relationship, you could be married with three kids, it doesn’t matter. All you know is that you’ve changed, and for some reason, the one that got away, is the first person you think about. You’ll think about them because you’ll wonder, “What if they were here today?” You’ll wonder, “What if we were together now, with me as I am and not as I was?”

That’s what the one that got away is. The biggest “What if?” you’ll have in your life.

If you’re married, you’ll just have to accept the fact that the one that got away, got away. Believe me, no matter how fairy tale you think your marriage is, this can happen to the best of us. But hopefully you’re mature enough to realize that if you’re already with the one you’re with, that this is just another test of your commitment, one which will just strengthen your marriage when you get past it. Sure, you’ll think about him/her every so often, but it’s alright. It’s never nice to live with a “might have been,” but it happens.

Maybe the one that got away is the one who’s already married. In which case it’s the same thing. You just have to accept and know that your memories of that person will probably bring a nice little smile to your lips in the future when you’re old and gray and reminiscing.

But if neither of that is the case, then it’s different. What do you do if it’s not yet too late? Simple… find him, find her. Because the very existence of a “one that got away” means that you’ll always wonder, what if you got that one? Ask him out to coffee; ask her out to a movie, it doesn’t matter if you’ve dropped in from out of nowhere. You’d be surprised, you just might be “the one that got away” as well for the person who is your “the one that got away.” You might drop in from out of nowhere and it won’t make a difference.

If the timing is finally right, it’ll all just fall into place somehow. And it would be a great feeling, if in the end, you’d be able to say to someone, “Hey you, you’re the one that almost got away.”
